Many people consider Bodø to be an underrated gem when it comes to destinations in northern Norway, and it’s a great place to begin a trip to Lofoten islands or northern Norway in general.
One of the great things about Bodø is that it has its own airport, and it’s easy to get to it from any other airport in Norway. But how do you get from the airport to Bodø city center? In this article we will be looking closer at how one can get from Bodø airport to Bodø city center as easily and cheaply as possible.
The easiest way to get from Bodø airport to the city center is to ride the bus that leaves from outside the main entrance to the airport. Line 1 takes you directly to the city center, and it laves every 10 minutes during the day. The bus ride is only 5 minutes. It’s also possible to walk to the city center, and it’s about 2 kilometres / a 15 – 20 minute walk.

Get from the airport to Bodø city center by bus
The most common way to get from the airport outside Bodø to the city center is to jump on the bus that departs from just outside the main entrance to the airport. Both Line 1 and Line 4 takes you to the city center.
The bus ride is between 7 and 10 minutes. Line 1 departs every 15 minutes during most of the day, and every 15 minutes on the evenings. It’s a bit more infrequent during the weekend (between 30 and 60 minutes between each bus departure), but the wait is never too long, and you can wait inside the airport if it’s cold outside.
The price for a bus ticket is 43 NOK for adults and 22 NOK for children. You can pay and get your ticket with the bus app, or pay with a bank card when entering the bus. Buses in Bodø do not accept cash, so make sure you have a bank card that is working.

Walk from Bodø airport to the city center
You can opt to walk to Bodø city center if you want, and this 2 kilometre walk will only take you around 15 to 20 minutes. There are sidewalks for most of the distance, so it’s a safe and pretty flat walk. Perfect for when you travel with only a backpack and want to save some money!
Not only do you save some money, but you also get to explore parts of Bodø on your walk. You will pass by the football stadium which is home to Bodø/Glimt, the current champion football team in Norway.
Drive a car or taxi from the airport to Bodø city center
The travel time from the airport to the city center of Bodø is only about 5 minutes with a car or taxi, so this is a great option. There are car rental agencies on the airport premises, so that’s an option.
There will usually be taxis waiting outside the main entrance of the airport to take any traveler to where they want to go. This is also a decent option, but be aware that taxis are insanely expensive in Norway, and this short 5 minutes drive will cost you several hundred NOK (yes, I’m serious).

The positive side of driving a taxi is that they will take you right to where you need to go, and not only to the city center. That’s a good option if you have booked a room in an AirBnb or something like that a bit outside of the main city, and it’s a bit of hassle to get there by bus.
